Can Birds Affect Your Aeration & Seeding?

Birds are everywhere, especially in yards, whether it’s flying by, you have a bird bath, or even coming down to grab some lunch from deep in the ground. If you have just got aeration and seeding you may want to try and keep those birds away.

Birds love seeds and obviously can come and take lawn seeding for itself, so if you have a significant amount of birds in your yard right after you aerate and seed, you may see some issues occur. Depending on how much seed a bird takes it can leave bald or patchy spots in your yard where there should’ve been grass growing. Birds can also damage your lawn in general by taking dust baths in the soil. Birds can also eat fertilizer coated seeds because they don’t realize it’s on there, it’s food to them either way.

Birds can also ruin your lawn just by going after surface insects such as grubs, worms, chinch bugs and more, So not only do they go for the seeds, they go for bugs as well and dig in the ground. There are ways to prevent the birds from landing on your yard such as using lawn decoys to keep birds away, lawn sprinklers and anything that makes noises helps also keep them away.

Birds may look nice in your yard but they can definitely cause issues when you are trying to seed your lawn. It’s a five star meal for them and they won’t worry about the damage they leave behind. So be mindful of the birds when you plan on seeding your property with ways of keeping the birds off your property.
